Jo Hamilton album launch gig available on Rhubarb Radio

Birmingham based internet radio station, Rhubarb Radio streamed the exclusive preview of Jo Hamilton’s debut album, Gown, live from The Glee Club last week and now has a great edited version of this very special gig, presented by Robin Valk. This was somewhat of a coup for Rhubarb Radio, in their first year of streaming, and working with such a prestigious venue should be great for their profile and help to raise the awareness of what is essentially one of the best local and international media tools Birmingham currently has in its bag.

Rhubarb may be an amateur vehicle driven by volunteers but it is one of the only form of media locally that offers people a format through which to share the music going on in and around the city. A radio station run by the people for the people, and available to anyone with internet access, is allowing its diverse audiences to listen live and ‘listen again’ to gigs going on directly from venues all across UK’s second city, with full support for live and local music from the ‘powers that be’, a truly refreshing change for artists and fans of music alike. This could easily turn into a rant about how local BBC media is completely unhelpful in offering support for local live music, despite its obligations to provide a voice for the people, but instead I will just highlight that Rhubarb Radio, despite its flaws, is fast becoming a true ambassador and mouthpiece for a variety of Birmingham acts and promoters, and that is something that they should be proud of.
